VANS » Margo
∴ The brief asked for a sneaker, high and low top versions, that could be an alternative to the classic Sk8 Hi’s. The category this shoe was being designed into was Girls Skate LS ( lifestyle ), which was a sub-line to the popular Classics category. I worked with the category manager and the other designers to come up with an adequate design that we all believed could be successful for the brief.
The sidestripe logo is downplayed as just a stitch with a woven label taking the main branding highlight in the quarter. The eyestay is binded both on the inside and outside of the seams, with some further binding accents coming from the sole onto the quarter. The rubber toe cap is pulled from heritage styling used in the early 70s product. The lace has a checkerboard pattern woven in to play up the classic Vans aesthetic.
The unfortunate thing here – the category was merged before these designs had ever seen the market.
