VANS » Mesa
∴ The above image was a result of a fairly harsh wear-test, a true wear test really – to monitor the longevity of the shoe. The Mesa was designed to be a skate shoe that could work in larger volume markets – i.e. JCPenny’s/Kohl’s. The design had to have a 60/40 suede to textile ratio, be vulcanized, and not rely on the sidestripe for branding. I went with a classic blutcher style with a sizeable ollie patch that is split before it goes up the eyestay to save on material cost. A 2MM wide embroidery covers a closed seam in the heel area that acts as another area for color/material options as well as cost savings.
